Conducting

Aaron Cassidy’s work as a conductor has spanned a broad range of traditional and contemporary repertoires, including leading numerous world premieres.

He has appeared as a guest conductor with ELISION, Ensemble Musikfabrik, International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), International Ensemble Modern Academy, the Northwestern University Contemporary Music Ensemble, and in 2011 was the conductor for all ensemble works presented at the International Computer Music Conference. From 2008–13 he served as conductor of the University Symphony Orchestra and New Music Ensemble at the University of Huddersfield.

His earliest training was in choral conducting. As a young singer with the American Boychoir he often conducted the group in concert, following the encouragement of the group’s director, James Litton, and he was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Texas Boys Choir while still an undergraduate. Before moving to the UK in 2007, he held positions as Organist/Choir Director at churches in Chicago and Buffalo while completing his undergraduate and PhD degrees, and was the conductor of Augenmusik, an ensemble specialising in open-form works and graphical notations.

His conducting teachers have included Stephen Alltop, Erik Oña, and, as a participant in the 2009 Herrenhaus Edenkoben Conducting Course, Zsolt Nagy and Peter Eötvös.
