The highlight of my summer activities was a research exchange and recruiting trip to Singapore and Malaysia in early September along with my University of Huddersfield colleague Liza Lim and Seth Woods, who is a final-year PhD student in Contemporary Music Performance. The trip included lectures, masterclasses, private lessons, concerts, and meetings with representatives from Yong Siew Toh Conservatory, LaSalle College, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, School of the Arts Singapore, SEGi College, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Universiti Malaya, and UPSI. I also had a short trip to Lucerne in mid-August to meet with Jeffrey Gavett for some development work on a new project for solo voice and electronics. During the visit, Jeff also presented an informal, impromptu recital of I, purples, spat blood, laugh of beautiful lips for some of the other singers in the Lucerne Festival Academy vocal programme.
